We pray, O God, for all those whose political and business skills have placed them in positions of power and leadership; especially for those who are holding forth over TennCare’s future.
Grant them strength, that they may endure until a life-giving and life-honoring decision is made; energy to stay the course through the minefields of the fiscal political process.
Grant them wisdom, that they may continue to serve the public with intelligence and make decisions that will not damage the vitality of our state and communities.
Grant them understanding that they may use imagination to discover solutions beyond the box of convention– choices that mirror the paradox of human community– choices that bring all players to the table.
Grant them compassion that they may serve the common good with a love that reaches each child and adult whose economic circumstances create for them the immoral need to choose between meals and medicine.
We pray, O God, for the rest of us whose lives will be impacted by the TennCare decisions.
Grant us strength, that we may refuse to allow this issue to be relegated to the back pages of life.
Grant us wisdom, that we may engage the depth and complexity of the issues and players involved.
Grant us understanding, that we may refuse to cave in to knee-jerk fears and caricatures.
Grant us compassion, that we may truly understand the only hope for healing that is the solidarity of the human community.
