In an effort to live out the vision of our presbytery that “Our identity as the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee is grounded in Jesus Christ, who moves us from brokenness to shalom,” the Stewardship and Mission Interpretation Mission Unit has acted to enhance several new ways in which we can more effectively communicate with one another and build a sense of relationships that are rooted in trust and community. This effort follows a core value that in the Holy Spirit we are moved from isolation to relationship.

Listed below are descriptions of four new additions to our web site that are intended as responses to building on this value. You will find descriptions of 3 regional blogs where ideas, concerns, and pieces for conversation can be utilized as a means of connecting ourselves more fully around common mission objectives.

You will also find the description and how to access a live, “real time,” chat room for interaction among ourselves. Please feel free to use these spaces that technology provides us as a means of building new relationships and cultivating friendships that already exist among us.

Short for weblog, a blog is a frequently updated web page maintained by an administrator with the ability to post "articles" that are generally short, topical, chronological, and can often contain images and links to other blogs or web sites of interest. The community of "bloggers" (or any person that blogs) is often collectively known as the "blogosphere". Blogs have been traditionally used as an online diary, but since its recent explosion in popularity bloggers have been writing about and discussing anything and everything.

Some suggested uses for the blog are:

  1. Open discussion and posting of regional topics of interest;
  2. Listing pastoral and church concerns for prayer;
  3. Sharing ideas for ways of partnering in particular mission endeavors, or shared church programs;
  4. A place for pastors to discuss lectionary texts and share sermon preparation ideas;
  5. Sharing stories of what is going on in the region's churches;
  6. Sharing programs that have worked well, or that haven't worked;
  7. Planning regional meetings and educational and fellowship events.

Commenting is the key component of blogs that enable discussions and facilitate interactions within our presbytery, all over the web. In essence, it's an instantaneous feedback mechanism. Upon publishing an article in the blog, visitors can comment on the article. The administrator may respond to that comment and/or allow other visitors to comment on that comment thereby creating an online discussion for all visitors to see and participate.
