The Nominations Support Unit is responsible for nominating qualified persons to serve in all elected positions of the various units and all committees, commissions and councils of the presbytery. The Nominations Support Unit nominates persons to fill vacancies that occur annually by reason of rotation, death, resignation, or removal from office. The Chair, or a representative designated by the Unit, serves on the Coordinating Council.
The Coordinating Council shall nominate four persons each year to serve on the Nominations Support Unit, and shall nominate one person to serve as chair of the unit. The Nominations Support Unit shall consist of 12 persons, in three classes, each to serve one three year term, except where initial classes of one and two year terms are necessary to establish a regular rotation. Of these 12, one-third shall be ministers, one-third shall be laywomen, and one-third shall be laymen (Book of Order, G-9.0800a).
Members of the Nominations Support Unit solicit and consider recommendations for various elected positions from the churches and ministers of the presbytery, from the Moderator, from the Coordinating Council, and from the Support and Mission Units affected, in consultation with the professional staff of the presbytery.
The Unit nominate persons guided by "principles of participation and inclusiveness to ensure fair and effective representation in the decision-making of the Church and to give full expression to the diversity" existing or desired within its membership, in conformity with the Book of Order G-4.0403 [The Church and Its Unity, Diversity and Inclusiveness] and G-9.0105 [Governing Bodies, Committee on Representation].
Ordinarily, no person shall be elected to or serve on, more than one commission, Support Unit, Mission Unit, or committee at a time except as provided for and/or required in the Mission Handbook.
The Nominations Support Unit meet immediately following the Winter meeting of the presbytery each year and as often thereafter as its work shall require.
Commissioners to the General Assembly are to be elected at the Fall meeting each year prior to the year of service. The Nominations Support Unit nominate a slate of five principal candidates (two ministers, two elders, and one youth advisory delegate) and five alternates.
